As far as interracial dating, no it isn't very common here because a full 80% of the population is Hispanic (and just under 15% are non-Hispanic Whites). Most of the non-Hispanics are here because of the military, so most of the interracial couples are military couples, or a military guy with a local gal. I don't really think it is something you should be too concerned about though...

How long as he been here for? What does he do in the Army (rank/MOS/TIS)?
I'll tell you this, and I've seen a lot of this country and other countries as well: 99% of the people out there don't give half a crap of who you date or marry. What I've seen is that the most people who bring it up or make an issue out of it are the people who are dating/marrying.
And if you've been around the military long enough, which it doesn't seem like you have, you'll notice that interracial marriages/dating is something quite common.

It's been a few generations since El Pasoans were Hispanic via a Hispanic mom and dad. So many of us are Hispanic but have one parent that isn't Hispanic. Percentages don't tell that story. LOL, go to Peter Piper Pizza on a weekday afternoon. You will how easy it is for Aftican Americans to date in El Paso.
