Hello everybody,

We are planning on moving back to El Paso in August this year. I am a veteran and currently working as a technician in Austin, Tx. I work with industrial/manufacturing equipment, perform maintenance on the machines, and ensure they keep running. I was wondering if there are any companies out there that are may be hiring my kind of work in the near future. I haven't been in El Paso for about 10 years now, and I'm not certain as to where I should start looking, other than online job postings. Thank you for your time.

The greatest demand for that kind of experience is going to be in Mexico (Juarez) ever since NAFTA saw most of the manufacturing that once was on the USA side move to Mexico. Not saying there aren't still some opportunities on the USA side - perhaps in the Anapra, NM area just west of El Paso.

I used to operate propulsion machinery in the Navy, and now I work in the semiconductor industry.

Not looking for jobs that only entail ships and semiconductor equipment....Industrial equipment maintenane, operation, etc. Even power plant operations. I applied to an opening not long ago on El Paso electric, but haven't heard back yet. I was just curious what other industrial/manufacturing type facilities are available.

It's like the other poster said, the manufacturing went to Juarez. You could commute easily to Juarez.

Juarez is litterally and figuratively DYING. Why would you send this poor guy to work there?

Although, you might not want to consider a move to New England, I know Quonset Point in Rhode Island has periodic need for this type of labor.

Well what else can he do if he wants to live in El Paso and work with machines and equipment? I believe Fort Bliss gives preference to military or former military so I'm just being honest that you'd have to look in Juarez for jobs with machines used in manufacturing. The plants in El Paso were shut down years ago.

The maquila industry is thriving even if Juarez is dying.
