I lived in El Paso for about a year 20 years ago. I hated it for the first few months and, once I pushed my prejudices about the ugly brown landscape (my initial perception) aside, I grew to appreciate it. The desert is pretty in its own way and you have to have a different mindset to truly appreciate it. What I did hate about it though was the way so much of it is paved over with concrete, especially in commercial and lower income areas. The west side off Mesa and around Coronado Country Club had beautiful homes hanging off the hills, similar to those you'd see in California. And flowering bouganvila (sp?) was everywhere, which was beautiful. There was, also, a beautiful area of big, older homes along Rim Road and up on the mountain above Rim, all with panoramic views of downtown El Paso and Juarez beyond. The lights at night were breathtaking from up there. I don't miss living there (I prefer green grass and shade trees!) but I'm glad I was able to experience it.

Deserts are just an acquired taste for some. I have no problems with El Paso. And I cannot wait until my next visit there. As a matter of fact, I can't wait until we see more pictures on this forum.

There should be a ''sticky thread'' at the top for El Paso photos as posters like Muhnay and Chuco and others have posted great pics in the past whether its the recient snow pics or palm trees etc...etc...as other states and cities have this sticky thread so maybe we can ask the El Paso Moderator to create it. I think it's ''Trainwreck'' as ''Austin Traveler'' is no longer our moderator.

El Paso looks exactly like the two pictures.. because they are El Paso. Trans-mountain Road near the Patriot freeway looking down loop 375. and then a Part of our Freeway system. Don't go lieing to people that El Paso does not look like that.. because that is El Paso in a nut shell.

I don't see anything inheritantly wrong with those two photos. Any city will have highways in and out. It's not "ugly" at all. I would simply consider it "normal"...

Why do you say that? I was just saying that El Paso looks just like the two images.. when someone said El Paso doesn't look anything like that. They are of El Paso.. so I found it strange that pictures of El Paso don't look like El Paso at all.
