The means by which the president is elected is undergoing change.

Currently 5 states have passed the rule that the votes of the electoral college will go to the winner of the national election (i.e. popular vote) rather than who wins the state vote tally.

Maryland, New Jersey, Illinois, Hawaii & Washington have passed this - totalling 61 electoral college votes. Massachusetts (12 votes) will be signing this into law. Arnold S has blocked it's passage in California (55 votes).

The law goes into effect when the electoral college votes by the states who pass this is 270.

I don't think this is a good thing. Different states have different needs and homogenizing the vote among all states will diminish the influence of the smaller states.

Right now, illegals have to migrate to various states to affect elections. (Why are illegals who flee Arizona going way out to Pennsylvania if not to sway an election?) If this initiative becomes law, illegals can just stay in California and effect the vote nationally rather than in their particular state.

So, you think illegals are not only registered to vote, you think they're organized enough to all move to a particular state to sway the outcome of a state election?

Just a step forward for democracy… People have a right to choose their leaders. If a majority of people vote for a candidate, they should win. I'm all for this.

I think its going to be a bad idea that was poorly thought out like most bad ideas... the whole point of the electoral process was to prevent the bigger communities to push around the smaller communities... it may sound great but I doubt most people will like it when the legislators are forced to act on the "panic" of the population and they will have to to keep their jobs... like the saying goes, an individual is a smart and thoughtful being, a group of people are savage idiots who react rather than think... You want like it when the majority don't think like you and "new" rules will restrict what you can do that you should be able to do with impunity... but whatever, go with the group mentality...

You really believe that Paco and Taco from AZ are going to PA to make sure Slick Eddy gets reelected as PA's governor?

I got a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn...

You sir, are an idiot.
