Nevada Sen. John Ensign said Tuesday he has been planning to run for reelection “for a long time,” suggesting that the ongoing fallout of his extramarital affair won’t doom him politically.

Good for him, so many on this board seem to think we need to get abortion, drugs, etc out of politics, let's get candidates private lives out as well.
Nita
I generally agree, but in Ensign's case its a bit more than just the affair, its what he did as a result of the affair. Ensign is currently under investigation by the Senate Ethics Committee for using his power to help the lobbying efforts of the husband of the woman he had the affair with in order to keep him quiet.
But the job he got his Chief of Staff, in return for sexual favors of his wife, was ILLEGAL. When is this guys trial coming up
Not necessarily. Something can be unethical (or not) and not be illegal. And with the horsetrading that goes on at all levels of government securing a job for your mistress' husband may not even cross into unethical. Depends on how the arrangement came about.

And if he is found guilty that is another story. Don't get me wrong, I am sick of these politicians who think they can do anything they want, but I still don't think personal lives have anything to do with public life. I know I am living in a dream world, but I still feel this way.
Is Ensign the one who had another religious hypocrite, Tom Coburn, (R) OK, pay off the family of the married woman with whom he boinked?
Quote:
Since his election to the Senate in 2000, Ensign has been a leading conservative voice who demanded the resignation of former Idaho Sen. Larry Craig in September 2007. Ensign called Craig a “disgrace” after he was arrested in June 2007 in an airport men’s restroom on disorderly conduct charges. But when Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) acknowledged having an affair, Ensign didn’t call on him to resign.
Oh, there's more! The hypocricy of those who wear the Christian lapel pin.
Regarding Craig (R):
Quote:
My experience has shown that individuals engaging in lewd conduct use their bags to block the view from the front of their stall. From my seated position, I could observe the shoes and ankles of Craig seated to the left of me. [...]
At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot. I moved my foot up and down slowly. While this was occurring, the male in the stall to my right was still present. I could hear several unknown persons in the restroom that appeared to use the restroom for its intended use. The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area."
Yep, I think they need to stay out of peoples' private lives, hehehehehhe.
These politicians who claim Christianity have some funky rules, don't they? (do as I demand but look the other way when I play)

These guys have created their own SNL.
Perhaps he didn't consider what Vitter did as an "affair" because it was with a hooker/ escort service?
