I know all about volunteer firefighters. I live outside Pittsburgh, where every township has their own volunteer fire dept.
I also know how hard it is for them to raise funds. Do you really think, in this day & economy, that the average volunteer can afford to pay their own costs after a 75% funding cut from the state? With such a huge disaster as these fires have become?
Wait, they applied for federal help. That'll cover it all.

Have another link. Maybe something will sink in. He cut their funding by 75%!

Texas cut fire department funding by 75 percent this year*|*Raw Replay
He didn't cut the funding by 75%, learn to read people! The budget was increased last year to cover one time large capital purchases and that much higher budget amount want back to normal, actually it want back down to a few million over what it was before the capital purchase bump. There was never any expectation that the budget would be what it was last year but Democrats are jumping all over this and trying to use it as a smear against Perry. It's not working, educated people know that these are bold face lies. I can't stand the guy but at least tell the truth about him and his policies.
