Poll taken AFTER the Wednesday debate. The calculated gamble pays off:

Much to Fear for Romney in Latest CNN Poll - Washington Wire - WSJ

Quote:
Have seniors been scared off by Mr. Perry’s provocative language about Social Security being a failure and a Ponzi scheme? Not at all.

Registered Republicans over 50 favor Mr. Perry over Mr. Romney by 41% to 22%. Among those over 65, Mr. Perry leads Mr. Romney by a whopping 3-to-1 margin.
Hope Obama's getting those scare-the-seniors ads ready.

Yeah, that backfired, didn't it?

I wasn't seriously considering Rick Perry until he said that.

What this proves is that Republics like extremists. That's not news. It's been that way for a long time. General voters aren't as enthusiastic about firebrands as Republics are though.

This poll is based on registered Republicans. It doesn't take into account Independents or swing voters. It is not completely representative. Those who already backed Perry will more than likely not be swayed. Those are the extreme right, tea party, fundamentalists. They make up a little more than half of the voters. The rest are the more middle of the road, sitting on the fence sort of voters and that is where the convincing has to be done. If Perry convinces some of them, he has this in the bag. If he doesn't Romney is still in this.
