Granted the link is an opinion piece, but I find it interesting that DEMOCRATS are blaming the loss on the SS marrage vote. Why not man up and admit that it is all your failures, primarily on economics, and the continued attacks on Israel that may just have had an impact? But what the heck, why face facts when you can play the gay card? Lets hope they keep the same tactics.

The one irony of embracing "diversity" in America... we have to welcome and accomodate cultures that advocate and hold on to religious nutbaggery and social control dogma from their homelands that is INcompatible with liberty and freedom.

While this probably had something to do with it, I suspect the overwhelming reason this seat turned Republican was to repudiate Oblama's 3 years of failure on the economy.

because the Orthodox vote turned against Weprin mostly because of marriage (many of the jews who were on record of saying Israel publicly in front of non Jewish audiences said marriage when speaking to Jewish audiences )

Oh yes here here, that just might also have something to do with it, not like the economy suffering as long as it has, does not matter, it most certainly does. Along with the other things mentioned.

Does not matter why, points are being made.

Mr. Turner, 70, lost to Mr. Weiner in the 2010 general election, but he did much better than expected, garnering 40 percent of the vote in a strongly Democratic district.

Koch Endorses Turner to Send A Message - Douglaston, NY Patch

Weiner is a Liberal and in favor of Gay marriage and yet he beat Turner is 2010.
Koch is not only pro-gay he is gay and so pro-Israel that he crossed party lines because of it.

To say that the gay marriage issue is why Turner won is just plain stupid!

if think you think that Koch influenced the Orthodox vote your crazy (Koch is more popular with gays after endorsing Turner then he is with Orthodox Jews despite endorsing Turner)
the vote in Orthodox parts of Flatbush was reported to be in the mid 80% for Turner it would be reversed if not for marriage. (when the vote totals come out in KGH you'll see that many Jews voted one way in Assembly race and the in the Congressional)

you honestly think Koch has more influence over Orthodox Jews then the leading Rabbis in America today.

So good to know that the election turned on something really important.
No doubt this will create jobs and put food on peoples' tables.

in regards to Wiener and marriage
1. ever since the law passed we're way more upset about it and the many jews who thought it would never happen even if they support such a candidate for other reasons woke up.
2. Many Jews frontrunner
3. most Orthodox Jews never heard of DOMA (we're for the most part not politically involved) (though they would support it strongly if they did)
4. Weprin's "Orthodox" and that makes what he did even worse.
5. Weprin's speech was way beyond the pale.
6. Weprin would have took much of Turner's support that he had last time if he was against gay marriage.
get it through your head this race was about marriage

Like I said, so good to know that the election turned on something important.
If this is now the depth of issues debated in NYC, I am so glad I got out.
