I think one needs to experience living in a border state to toally understand. there is no one that is anymore anti illegals than I am, but I also see Perry's side. It is better to educate these kids, than put them on welfare...He isn't talking about illegal adults coming across the border and getting in state tuition, he is talking about the kids. Whether we like the situation or not, we have to address the illegals problems and sending everyone of them back isn't going to solve the problems because it can't be done.

I am far more concerned about the fact that he is not a fiscal conservative than about the immigration issue.

Maybe, but it's gonna be a hard sell. That is a big issue that has never been dealt with yet. The problems and escalating violence in the border states is really getting out of control. I just read yesterday that the Mexican drug cartels have stated that they will take over all of the counties on the Texas Mexico border. This is a serious problem and it is getting worse. This is much more than just giving illegals instate tuition.

So what do you think will happen if Arizona and New Mexico start educating the illegal kids also? Why not Nevada and Colorado? They are not border states but also have large illegal populations. Will that encourage more illegals to come to the U.S. to have their kids educated?

Yes it can. That is a cop out and if we don't send them ALL back, a good majority will be gone.....

Ala. law cracks down hard on illegal immigrants - CBS News

Delighted Alabama is standing up...and up-holding the LAW. Follow suit, America!

There was a bill in the Colorado legislature this past session to give Colorado resident illegal aliens in-state tuition. It did not pass. It's only a matter of time until it does pass.

We could even stretch that to AR, many might be shocked to know the number of Hispanics living here, and many are illegals. I was referring to NM mainly because we lived there, have lots of friends in AZ and family in Texas, so I understand the situation. As much as I may not like it, I do understand the theory around educating them (regardless of what state they reside in)

We just have to try and work out a solution for those living here illegally before we can hope to solve the problems or control the border. It is obviously a very complicated issue. We can't just ship 20 mil people back to where they came from..I do believe any young person getting in state tuition that is not a citizen should need to apply for citizenship. I think Perry said that is the case, but I am not sure.

I also understand the theory behind educating the illegal aliens. And I have read the Communist Manifesto and understand the principle behind having the government provide for everyone because I would prefer that no one starve. But unfortunately, it does not work!

No, we do not have to pay tuition or any other benefits before securing the border. I agree with you that we should not ship them back. Instead, implement policies that encourage illegals to leave, on their own dime, like Alabama: Hispanic students vanish from Alabama schools - Yahoo! News
