years ago when tv wasn't a factor id give him a 50/50 shot to win.

i think with christie (if he runs) who he chooses as a VP will have more scrutiny behind it then anyone else.

the look and GQ factor of a candidate are as important as anything else to most people.

that was one huge advantage obama had over mccain. obama was young and fresh, he had the GQ factor. mccain was skeletor.

And McCain always looked & acted like he had just yelled at some kids to get off his lawn!

Well I agree that appearance does matter, it probably should not, but it does. The Kennedy Nixon debate was the first time a debate was televised and Kennedy won, because the audience could see Nixon sweating.

FDR took great lengths to make sure he was never photographed in a wheel chair. He was afraid that people would see him as weak, and he is probably correct.

I'm pretty sure it's because he's from Joisey.

It's the same reason why people might be reluctant to vote for others from expensive states. We don't want to become "those guys" with high costs of living and taxes up the wazoo.

It's a little of both. Being 'big' is no plus.

Addendum: Surely people can see why out of over 300 million people in the USA....SO FEW 'HIGH QUALITY' (no pun intended) i.e. high in good character kind of candidates will expose themselves to this arena (POTUSA)....It's too hard on honest, decent people to endure all the crap involved to get elected....and then have to deal with a majority of other corrupt people ...when you take office.

Although I agree that we have big issues with looks and other superficial assets in this society, Christie is one of the people who has such a big personality that you just tend to overlook his weight if you are a person who cares about such a thing. He is not, however, what some of the conservatives are probably totally looking for. If Romney isn't conservative enough to suit them, Chris Christie is not either.

Somebody in New Jersey voted for Christie though so they must have minded.

That was the same reason they said he would not become NJ Governor, just retreaded and put back on the road.

The ignorant people have since learned, the Presidency is not a beauty contest.(not saying McCain was any better mentally)
