When all of the other people who they begged to run didn't take them up on it, they settled for Romney by default. They could have had him before they asked all of those other people to run but they didn't throw in with him until all of the others said "no" to running for President. They even had to show you they were throwing in with Romney by sending their last choice who said "no" (Christie) to be seen with him at one of the debates.
Before all of those people said "no" to them they were reminding you that Romney was a front runner who couldn't get out of the 25 percent area. When all of the candidates who weren't Romney stumbled and lost voters, Romney never picked up the people the other candidates were losing. Those voters fled to other conservatives, not Romney. You never seem to hear about that anymore.
I would have to say he's the one who is really unelectable but he won't be and do you want to know why? They are counting on the constant debates and early primaries to keep all of the non-Romney candidates to still be around in January (when all of those moved up primaries start), taking votes from each other. If they are all still in, making up 70 something percent of the vote, he'll still win with his 20 something percent of the vote because they are siphoning votes from each other.
Do you hear a lot of whining about threatened moved up primaries from the Republican Machine compared to previous years? No, you don't because it benefits Romney to still have all of those other candidates siphoning votes from each other when the primaries start.

"Democrats have long enjoyed bashing Karl Rove, former White House adviser and architect of the campaigns that put President George W. Bush in office. But clashing with the longtime Republican operative and Fox News contributor is now catching on for another group: conservatives, especially those affiliated with the tea party movement."
