Newt Gingrich left office in January 1999, but the cash flow from Washington didn't stop. He was paid $30,000 per month by Freddie Mac for his services as a "Strategic Advisor."

(How is that different than being a lobbyist? ).

In 2008 he called on then-candidate Obama to fire all campaign aids associated with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and return all funds his campaign received from the GSEs.

I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning.

Once Obama gets rid of his Fannie/Freddie buttbuddies, then it will impact Newt. Not before.

It would depend on the job description and his day to day activities? Do you have those details? Would you turn down a job that paid that much? More troubling - why is a government sponsored corporation even having jobs like this?

Actually he wasnt paid $30K a month, the company he owned did, and it went to dozens of employees.

There is a huge difference between a strategic advisor and a lobbyiest.
A strategic advisor tells companies what they should be doing
A lobbyiest goes out and asks government to change policies.

Not even close.

Default Newt a repulsive presence

The ever-present stench of these Republican candidates is a gift that keeps on giving. Excellent post about repulsive Newt.

Pubs should be embarrassed by this crop of GOP rejects...

Helping companies and organizations come up with a strategic plan for their legislative agenda is part of what a lobbyist does. What other issue would Newt be qualified to help them with?

A lobbyist influences politicians in congress ... Newt didn't ... Newt was paid as a consultant to Freddie Mac. Corporations hire consultants all the time and Newt was a consultant for hire so I see nothing wrong with this. But lets play your game and pretend Newt did act as a lobbyist ... how is this any different than the way business is currently done in Washington? Look at the Obama administration ... Obama ran on the promise he would have no lobbyist in his administration ... but yet he does ... he even has former CEO's and top executives from big banks and Wall Street in his administration ... this is a much worse situation than anything Newt has done. Obama even received millions in campaign funds from Freddie Mac and Obama turned around and used hundreds of billions in tax payer money ... our money ... and gave it to Freddie Mac ... Obama should go to jail for these crimes.

Newt-onian Proverb:

"When you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging."

Are you really defending Newt's actions here?

No, not really.

[LEFT]A lobbyist is a public relations specialist with strong communication skills who persuades legislators to vote on public policy in favor of their clients' interests.

Newt didnt have anything to do with the legislators.

I've been a consultant. Being a consultant has NOTHING to do with lobbying. They arent even remotely close to the same. The fact that you dont understand the difference (and neither do many in the media), doesnt create a need to defend because there isnt.
