Anything less than 50% for Paul is going to be a major loss given the propaganda we've had to listen to about his organization in Iowa and how his message is "resonating."
The question is how many liberals was Ron Paul able to get to go to the Iowa Republican caucuses.
I'll say I think one thing Paul's campaign did wrong was not make sure a speaker would be at each caucus location. It would have been better if there was less phoning from home (and pissing people off because the telemarketing system wasn't keeping proper track of who was called and having people call the same people over and over again).
I watched the Dexter caucus and only one guy who barely knew anything about him stood up to speak when nobody else was going to. Needless to say at that location he only came in 3rd if I remember correctly but both Perry and Romney had flown a speaker in so again needless to say, they did better for it.
The reality here is any vote for anyone not named Paul is essentially a vote for Obama. None of these other lapel flag pin wearing, talking bobblehead theocratic jingoist bigots stands any chance against Obama. At all.
That's all these Republican primaries essentially are about. It's whether the GOP wants to win the White House, or if they just want a sacrificial lamb that won't embarass them too much come November.
With 78 percent of the vote left, Ron Paul is only behind by 57 votes. Hardly something to worry about at this stage. Worry more if Santorum wins, he'll fall apart before the month is out.
Just got back from my precint(sp?). Had to type in results into my phone fast as I could....not real accurate, but gives you an idea:
Des Moines Precints 11 & 12 (we were in the same room). Numbers are a bit rough (hard to write them all down fast enough):
11:
Paul 22
Romney 21
Santorum 20
Perry 16
Gingrinch 12
12:
Paul 41
Santorum 30
Romney 27
Newt 26
Perry 16
fyi for addl color:
These are precints in the city, but outer edge, so have a more suburban feel to them.
All candidate except Santorum and Bachman had someone standup and talk on behalf of he candidates. The Paul rep was by far the most impressive (did get his name but he was a politician that at some time in the past run against, and defeated Nancy Polosi).
Least impressive, Romney rep stood up and READ a prepared speech. Surprise...surprise.

No, the reality is that Obama and the liberals want Paul to be the nominee.
Half of these voters pulling the lever for Ron Paul will vote for Obama if Paul miraculously wins the nomination. Fortunately, it looks like that isn't happening.
