I refuse to vote for Santorum. Gingrich would be a 'hold-my-nose and drink before heading to the polls' vote. But, being in MA, it makes little difference I guess.
probably not going to be anyone other than Romney, but I will support whomever. It would be very hard to vote for Paul or Santorum to be honest, but i am sure I Would. I have crossed over many times, never for Pres. Maybe I would vote for Johnson, but in the end I doubt it.
I can't really let myself think about voting for Gingrich or Santorum. If they were to, by some total ignorance, cheat Romney out of this, hopefully there will be a backup plan and I won't have to vote for either one of them. I don't think there is any way I could force myself to vote for Gingrich...Santorum, I would have to really pray about. Ron Paul, maybe I could.
I don't vote or go with a third party candidate like Gary Johnson. There is no way that I could bring myself to vote for a scumbag like Newt or a religious nutjob like Santorum.
In general, the dominant sentiment in the GOP is their unadulterated hatred for Obama. Sometimes even they can't explain exactly why, or sometimes their explanations are downright ridiculous, but they still hate his guts. Never mind the fact that Obama is perhaps the least leftist Democratic president in history. This feeling trumps everything, and because of this, in the end, most Romney/Newt/Santorum supporters will fall behind the nominee, just to get rid of Obama. There maybe exceptions to this, but it's going to be rare.
Except for the portion of the GOP which is "No One But Paul", the rest of them are "Anyone But Obama".

hmmm...well history existed before Truman and i would have to see the factors used to determine why a given ex-president fits where he does on the scale for your graph to convince me one way or the other......so while I won't say you are wrong I remain as skeptical as before.

History existed before Truman, sure, but Progressivism started around the time of Truman. The immediate Democratic president before Truman was Grover Cleveland, who was a Ron Paul of his time - a strict Constitutionalist and a fiscal conservative. NOTHING like his successors. That was the time the Democratic party was still sane.
The wide-spread perception amongst GOP is that Obama is as left as it can get. A Communist, Marxist etc. But facts belie this. Obama is very center-right and neocon. (True liberals actually hold the position that Obama is a conservative.) The only place where Obama doesn't go to the right is the social issues. Other than that, his economic/foreign/civil policies are pretty much center-right (tough foreign policy, tough drug policy, tough on civil liberties etc. - all right-wing positions). He does call for the redistribution of wealth, but not any more than any Republican president before him. They all redistributed wealth, one way or the other. They all grew the government.
