The constitution never defines the definition of marriage, and again never says they can't. The constitution states people have the freedom to believe or not to believe in religion and is every american's decision to make. Church and state are to be kept separate.
Mr. constitution himself Ron Paul feels marriage should be eliminated from the government all together and left up to the churches to decide (which I agree with)

If you want a utopia where religion is the rule of law, you might want to look into moving to the middle east
