Interesting comments from January:

"Poor women, he said, shouldn't be given a choice, but instead should be required to work outside the home to receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families benefits. "[E]ven if you have a child 2 years of age, you need to go to work," Romney said of moms on TANF."

"Shouldn't be given a choice..." Wow.
Now, I personally have no issue with this requirement, but, it does seem a tad hypocritical coming from the guy who claims that his wife was WORKING when she stayed at home with their kids. Does that mean that doing laundry, washing dishes, preparing meals, giving baths, etc. is only work when rich people do it?

""I wanted to increase the work requirement," said Romney. "I said, for instance, that even if you have a child 2 years of age, you need to go to work. And people said, 'Well that's heartless.' And I said, 'No, no, I'm willing to spend more giving day care to allow those parents to go back to work. It'll cost the state more providing that daycare, but I want the individuals to have the dignity of work.'""

I guess I am trying to understand why Mr. Romney would advocate for forcing some women into the work-force and their children into daycare when all we've heard for the past week or so is that staying at home with the kids IS work.

So, is it only work when you can afford to stay home?

Lightbulb Mr. Romney Apparently Believes that Raising Kids is Work, Unless You are Poor

Of course!

Poor working folks are lazy, dontcha know.

Rich folks living on daddy's inheritance are workers.

Romney keeps telling us all repeatedly who he is: a spoiled rich boy who looks down at everyone who wasn't smart enough to be born into a family of millionaires. Like he was.

Mitt Romney: Mothers Should Be Required To Work Outside Home Or Lose Benefits
I read your post and link but I couldn't find anything that you claim. He did say that woman who recieve public funds should work outside the home. Hardly controversial. I am certain most folks would consider remodeling a bathroom work, but work that should not be subsidized by public funds.

Mitt Romney: Mothers Should Be Required To Work Outside Home Or Lose Benefits
and he is right on this one: are you saying that women who are on welfare should continue to stay on welfare so they can be "stay at home mom?" I can't believe anyone feels that way. Ideally a mother should have a choice whether to be a stay at home mom or a duel career mom, but if there isn't enough money she should work outside the home for heavens sake.

Not sure what this means since the quotes are directly from the video.

Yes, he did say that women who receive public funds should work outside the home. And therein lies my confusion/question.
If, as Mr. Romney has stated, the WORK his wife did by staying at home with her kids was the most valuable, and if many believe this to be true, why then isn't he advocating for subsidies for stay-at-home moms rather than stating that women should be FORCED to leave their children in the hands of government daycare centers, at further expense to the taxpayers?
Why is he stating that women have to work outside the home to experience the 'dignity' of work? Isn't staying at home 'dignified?'
Or, is it only 'dignified' when one can afford to choose to stay at home?

I am not sure why you are confused, but perhaps this will help. There is much valuable work done in he world that isn't subsidized by the public.
