By the way, it was the democrats who have been reconfirming the Bush tax cuts since obama took office. So if there was a gutting of the tax base, I think it was more of a bi-partisan thing than just one sided as you suggest.
Democrats tried to extend it for incomes under 250k. The Republicans in the Senate unanimously pledged to block all legislation unless they got their way. The Democrats then offered to raise it to 1 million. Again, the Republicans pledged to block any and all legislation unless they got their way.

The Republican party is like a bunch of whiny, entitled children who won't settle for anything less than 100% of what they want all the time. And these same people who refuse to even moderately increase revenue spend much of their time standing in front of cameras blathering about the need to balance our budget.

The GOP likes to call Obama an extreme leftist who refuses to compromise, when the reality is that, over and over and over again, on nearly every single piece of significant legislation, Obama and the Democrats try to reach a deal, while the Republicans stand in lockstep opposition, demanding that they get their way or they'll screw over the middle class, or let the government shut down, or whatever. It's disgusting, and the GOP should be ashamed of themselves.

That is completely false! The Republicans are a MINORITY in the Senate.

President Lincoln obviously did not watch Fox News. You can FOOL all the people all of the time!

It's not really fair to only blame the Republicans for the collapse of the financial industry. It was during Clinton's second term that a bill was passed prohibiting any regulation of derivatives and Larry Sommers played a key role in getting the bill passed.

Do you GOPhers really think Romney is going to put on his magic underwear and pray away the FUBAR economy.

Just a heads up, the world economy sucks everywhere and there is no quick fix.

Let me prophesy here that if the GOP wins, in two years there will be a repeat of 2010 and a swing back to the DP again.

There is a saying of being had by the short and curlies and it haz you all in its grip.

It is gonna take years to recover properly and with your pithy 10% unemployment; boo frigging hoo, try 60% unemployment then you can complain.

You are all just victims of see-saw politics thinking that your vote actually matters. It doesn't really.

What is that saying of divide and conquer?

Perhaps you lot need another war to fix the economy seeing how well the last two worked so frigging well huh?

I didn't think so.

The Republicans "win" by avoiding further damage to the country at the hands of the Pelosi/Reid/Obama fringe of the Democratic party, and helping the Dems realize that they better find some adults to replace them.
Given the choice between Congress doing more and doing less. Doing less is better.

Feel free to get a clue before posting.

The Republican minority is large enough that, under the bizarro-land rules of the senate where a majority isn't enough to pass a bill, they can block anything they want.

They used this to get their way on tax cuts for the very wealthy, by threatening to raise taxes on the middle class and halt all legislation if they didn't get exactly what they wanted.
