Just wondering if you all think we'll begin to see Obama play the Christian card?
It seems sort of obvious to me that he should play the Christian card against Romney's Mormon card (for votes in the Southern and Midwestern swing states...). To do so would seem somewhat taboo, but, at the same time, what better way to conservatives in swing states?
What do you think?
That's like saying Romney should go after the African American vote. It's never going to happen. Christian Evangelicals always have and always will align themselves with the Republican party.
Nope. If it were up to me, he'd leave the Christian faith and become an Atheist.
So, whether he is a Christian, Muslem or whatever you think he should put his feelings and beliefs aside and become an Antheist even if he does not accept the Atheist views? Do you think this is what people should do, just because you happen to be a non believer? I don't know how he feels but no one should sell thier beliefs short just to satisfy another person...
I believe he is an atheist, but if he openly admitted to that he would see so much backlash he wouldn't have a chance at getting elected. The white liberal base is very atheist but a huge part of the Democratic party are minorities and they are still very religious. That's how Prop 8 got passed and even won in Los Angeles county.
I can't go that far: I would be more inclined to believe he is either a Muslim, but it doesn't bother me either way or maybe he is an Agnostic and a Muslim sypathizer. Regardless this should not be an issue period. His not be truthful about his beliefs is an issue.
This sub-forum really is redneck Americans still insisting on being rednecks. I should have known better than to ask a question involving tact and strategy to angry white people who deny their own racism (Yes, I'm white, too.). Not sure why I would ever prose a question involving intellect to a bunch of circle-jerking haters...
*That's not a knock to City-Data; just many of the people who post in the political forums.

Please don't use being gay as an insult, you Democrats do way too much of that. "Tea Baggers" "Circle Jerkers" etc

What are you talking about? You asked if he should play the Christian card? Most of us are telling you why he shouldn't. This has nothing to do with Redneck America as you call it. In face your question was bigotted, most of us are saying, religion is not and should not be an issue.

No need for the President to get into the religion issue. Others will do that, naturally. Many of the "Christian" community across the southern USA don't like Mormons. They don't believe Mormons are Christians. This has been shown in survey after survey. It's one of the silent issues in the campaign but not so silent in the minds of many conservative voters. Many just won't vote for Romney, because of this.

When looking for Christian votes, he doesn't need to play Christian card. Evangelicals, OTOH, are a whole other class of people. I sure hope you weren't alluding to them as Christians.
