No need for the President to get into the religion issue. Others will do that, naturally. Many of the "Christian" community across the southern USA don't like Mormons. They don't believe Mormons are Christians. This has been shown in survey after survey. It's one of the silent issues in the campaign but not so silent in the minds of many conservative voters. Actually, Gallup showed the self-identified Democrats are far more bigoted against Mormons than Self-Identified Republicans. Some Republicans won't vote for a Mormon, but far more Democrats are on that boat.

I agree, good points. Obama doesn't want his radical past brought back up. Otherwise, he wouldn't be afraid to play that card. He certainly isn't afraid to play the race card in the 2008 primary, 2008 campaign or again in 2012.
