I have said all along that he meant to do just what he did. He has directed and acted in a couple of movies in his 82 years and I thought he did a damned fine job of acting. I watched that thing 5 times and thought he was better every time.
My husband said the exact same thing. The guy is an actor and that was his roll. He got the points across that he intended, loud and clear. I did not get the sense that he "didn't know what he was doing/saying". The guy isn't an idiot. Now if JOE BIDEN would try something like that, you'd have to have him put away.
The only thing that would have been more embarrassing than Eastwood's demented old man yelling at a chair bit would have been him giving a speech on family values.
Now if JOE BIDEN would try something like that, you'd have to have him put away.
Which, thankfully, he didn't.
Biden chose to spend much of his air time thanking the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces and encouraging us to support them. Especially those who were wounded and must cope with that the rest of their lives.
Eastwood talked to a chair. Yep. The Republicans really know how to address what's important in this country. Nothing like having Clint Eastwood up on stage talking to an empty chair and winking at all the haters saying, "I'm really giving it to Obama!"
My God, it was incredibly obvious that Eastwood should continue to focus ONLY on his movies. He has no place in politics. He made an embarrassing appearance at a ho-hum, uninspiring convention representing the most pathetic version of the inferior Republican party in history.
It's obvious that Eastwood's performance as well as the RNC are long forgotten after that incredible DNC.
It certainly has given rise to The Empty Chair concept as representing Obama, which has been adopted by the Republicans, the media, and newpaper cartoonists, worldwide.

Best cartoon I saw was President Obama gesturing to an empty chair saying, "And now a few words from Osama bin Ladin."
Wow, Eastwood truly IS going senile if he thinks he can spin this into something positive. HINT: A week of his chair being topic #1 did NOT help Mitt. Clint sucked the media attention away from his candidates and that in no way shape or form was a good thing for the Republican Party.
"Mission accomplished"? Where have we heard that phrase before?
