They're as "independent" as the Peoples Democratic Republic of N Korea is a democratic republic. Some folks are easily fooled. And they'll gladly vote for Romney. But they aren't independents. They think Sean Hannity is a newscaster and Rush Limbaugh is fair and balanced.
