A peek under the covers though shows that things did change. There were large movements on Obama's job approval and in questions relating to whether economic conditions are improving. Those same sentiments are being reflected in every poll as we approach the election. The perception that things are better is why Obama is going to win re-election in the final analysis.

And no, don't post a tally of 'Republican vs. Democrat' because there are Democrats this election cycle that won't be voting for Obama.
and there will be republicans voting for Obama and not Romney.

The folks living in the clueless bubble of the coastal areas prop up the rest of the west where our non-leader is quite unpopular. Obama also trails throughout the non-confederate great plains and might lose non-confederate Wisconsin and New Hampshire, as well as some other northern states.
Then there's the fact that the confederacy no longer exists, and the area that it used to comprise is no more racist than the rest of the country, which sounds like the house of cards you're trying to biuld .
Obama is proving himself to be even worse than Carter, as impossible as that may sound, so this notion that liberals are smarter makes no sense to any thinking person.
As long as liberals prop up Carter and Clinton, their jabs at the south can never be taken seriously.

I don't blame Obama for the recession (except in the general sense that he was in Washington when it happened). I DO blame him for the lousy recovery. He worked on the wrong things, because he didn't know any better. This election has gone very similar to 1980. The Democrat incumbent demonized his opponent into a caricature, and then was surprised that the public accepted the real person who showed up at a debate. I think America has decided. The only difference is that Obama has 4 weeks to twist in the wind until election day; Carter suffered for only a week.

This election is over barring some huge unforeseen event. Say hello to President Romney.

I was unaware that we elected Presidents by US regions. I thought it was by the state..
