Really, we do? Can someone please provide this president with an education?
Automatic firearms have been severely restricted for ownership since 1934, with additional restrictions placed on their ownership in 1968 and 1986. Such firearms are registered with the BATFE. They require approval from the owner's local law enforcement. BATF agents can come in and inspect an owner's residence at any time. They require a $200 tax payed each time they are transfered. Approval takes months (and a federal background check) to get. Since 1986, civilian ownership of newly manufactured automatic firearms has been illegal. Ownership is illegal in a number of states even with all these federal hoops. And they are EXTREMELY expensive.
Legally owned automatic firearms are virtually unused in crime. And we have a multitue of laws on the books concerning them. So...what's the deal Mr. President? Were you simply ignorant of these facts? Or were you once again lieing and attempting to deceive the American people. Are you counting on them not understanding that legally owned firearms are a different animal from ones manufactured illegally for the crime world? Or are you simply counting on people being too ignorant to not understand that the legal, civilian semi-auto that looks like a scary AK-47 or M-4/M-16 is not an "automatic weapon"? And are you trying to confuse them between the difference between an "assault rifle" (which is an "automatic" and restricted per the above) and legal semi-autos?
If there is an issue with "automatic weapons" on the streets, Mr. President, why are you not enforcing the existing laws?
Again...Mr. President...are you ignorant, or a liar?
Oh, and what are these "cheap handguns" you are attacking? Should only the rich have an affordable means of self defense?
Maybe Obama need to wake up. The ATF visited me the other day and one of my AKs I sold walked the border and killed Mexicans. Maybe he should be concentrating on getting operations like F&F and drug cartels addressed.
