On what planet?

Those pieces that were sold off helped to expand the healthy businesses that purchased them.

I buy all sorts of tools and equipment from failed businesses.

Why not?

I get top quality, name brand equipment for a fraction of its original price.

The lesson here is, control your costs or lose your ***.

Those are your options.

While I am not a Romney enthusiast, my position has nothing to do with his career in the private sector.

If LBOs were to suddenly become illegal, the carcasses of most of these companies and their employees were destined to be road kill.

Some of them are reorganzied and survive and some do not. In any event the management firm is protected.
