Democrats use the image of white hoods and the KKK to woo black voters. Tit for tat. Republicans use an image of positivity - Democrats use an image of fear.
Democrats, especially poor democrats fear this image.
Yes, MLK was a Republican, and his daughter is an outspoken critic of Obama. I believe MLK would have, as a Christian Minister, been very ashamed of Obama's policies and politics. He was into the content of character, an less concerned about the level of melanin in the skin. May we be blessed with more black( and white, and brown, etc.) leaders like him.
What on earth are you talking about CAHomeschoolMom, MLK would have been at the front of the free contraception, free abortion, gay marriage, redistribution of wealth march.
MLK would be rolling over in his grave if he saw what liberal policies have done to the modern black family.

Yes he would! MLK was an honorable and amazing man and fought hard for so many people. The left and their entitlement policies, especially all that Obama stands for, have just erased everything MLK did.
I had not thought about it before, but it makes sense that Mr. King would have identified more with the Republican Party back in the 1950s/60s than with the conservative southern Democrats. After all, George Wallace was as conservative southern Democrat, who (in his early days) did not wish to extend much in the way of civil rights to African-Americans.
As usual, people get caught up in labels: conservative, liberal, Republican, Democrat. Such labels are only for the intellectually lazy. Texas, for example, has remained a 'conservative' state throughout the many years, although it is now considered a 'safe' Republican state, whereas previously it had been a 'safe' Democrat state.
Anyway, I think it safe to say that Mr. King would have, if alive today, been more prone to be under the Democrat umbrella. Yet I also agree that he would have been (probably) against abortion on demand and a few other issues now identified with the 'liberal' wing of the Democratic party.
On the whole, I doubt the billboard in question will sway many people's vote.
You must be a frequent visiter of the storm front web page you know it so well...
And there ^ it is again, people, the witch-hunt for racists. LOL I said it in another thread, but folks in city-data are pathetically dependent on racial accusations while trying to make their arguments. I'll just never understand it.
People seemed to have forgotten MLKs history - his purpose and cause, or are too young to know about MLK. He wanted to bring black people out of poverty, get an education and improve their standing in society. What black people may not realize is that democrats found another way to suppress black people - make welfare a lifestyle. That was democrats "helping" poor black people.
Dems are outraged that Romney reminds people that MLK was a republican, but no outrage towards Michael Moore who campaigns for Obama creating a commercial with a black woman, a senior citizen, using foul language who is going to c**kpunch Romney in the nu*sack. Is that how black people want to be exploited?
What does MLK being a Republican (or not) have to do with the current Neocon/Tea Party/Ayn Rand agenda? The Republican party of today has zero in common with the party of the 1960's. Zero!
