I don't understand it. Before Romney announced his intent to run, many Christians wanted to keep him out of the White House because of his faith and supported other potential Christian candidates. When they finally realized Romney would be their candidate, suddenly they were in full support. If they believe he's qualified now, why not then?
Personally, it never mattered to me. But then again, I'm one of those Christians who believe I don't have the right to tell another professed Christian if they're actually Christian or not.
