Herman Cain was an attempt by Republicans to put in a minority sock puppet in a patronizing attempt to try and sway the black vote. It did absolutely nothing and Cain is pretty much openly mocked for this.

It's actually really racist and condescending to think Blacks or any other minority votes simply because of race alone.

This is why the Republican party has so many problems. They simply don't understand what motivates minority voters to begin with. They go back to insulting talking points like "free handouts" and other blathering nonsense without looking into it.

IF Romney really wanted government to downsize he wouldn't have been so gung-ho to increase military spending. He's a typical conservative, downsizing and cutting spending means downsizing and cutting spending on things not on his agenda while growing/spending like a drunken sailor on things that are.

I don't think Obama's perfect, either. I was disappointed in his lack of leadership and his willingness to too often to play the part of puppet. I think he can do better. But I am happy he is ending our wars. I am happy he got OBL. And I really think he is trying to figure out ways to make things better for Americans, and I am not such a moron that I think that could have possibly happened in FOUR YEARS.

If you're going to talk to me as if I'm a moron, I'm not going to vote for you. Period. Let the morons vote for you.

These people don't get on the news, but it's as if they don't even exist. My next-door neighbor is almost 60. She didn't grow up in the ghetto or on some tobacco farm in the south where everyone works in the field and can't read, she's from the suburbs of New Jersey. My brother-in-law is the same way. My coworkers are in charge of multi-million dollar construction projects. As a matter of fact, I don't even know any black people personally who are on welfare.

I think if all the black people you know are living off the government and looking for hand-outs, you need to start associating with a better class of people overall.
The poster above is right on. Most black people are not like the caricature that the GOP would have you believe and don't appreciate being characterized in that fashion. Women are also not like how they describe and white women, like the poster above, seeing the GOP as out of touch should be seen as alarming to the GOP. I work with and know and am even related to (by marriage) white women and most of them, like me, are rather conservative on a lot of issues, but they, like me don't like the talk about rape or about making abortion illegal, even if we never would have an abortion. We don't like to be thought of as being idiots by idiotic party members and will vote accordingly.

I found it interesting on ABC last night when Mourdock lost in IN that they had a poll question about the former incumbent of that seat, who was a more moderate republican, and women voters overwhelmingly stated that if the moderate candidate had been on the ticket and not Mourdock, then they would have voted for the GOP.

LOL!!

I will take it into the political realm and admit if Allen West were running against Mitt Romney, I'd vote for Romney!

Another great post!!

The Republicans are very shortsighted...

They did the exact same with Sarah Palin in 2008
And I'm sure that they will do the same thing again with Marco Rubio in 2016

I've been very disturbed by all this race talk in the media -

Blacks and whites split their votes pretty much the same in every election. Americans vote their values (and maybe their confused ideas at times). I voted for Obama twice but it's more than a little insulting when people suggest that simply being white means you wouldn't vote for him. In fact, white people who are not religious broke for Obama by 90%.

It's equally dumb to suggest that black people are voting for Obama just because he's black and not because they think he's either a good president or that he's better than the alternative. Clearly, in this election he got less support from that demographic than he did last time - and he also got less support from white people this time around.

Percentage of vote by race:

Clinton '92 - whites/39%, blacks/83%
Clinton '96 - white/44, black/84
Gore '00 - white/42, black/90
Kerry '04 - white/41, black/88
Obama '08 - white/43, black/95
Obama '12 - white/39, black/93

64% of the people who voted for Obama were white. Democrats can't win with any less. Just like Republicans can't win without a reliable portion of black, asian and latino voters.

You make a strong point here, and I could understand that sentiment. But many of the posters on this thread have said otherwise. I'd never realized that blacks voted so heavily Democratic. The 93% just struck me as over the top.

Acknowledge that 1. Black people have been voting overwhelmingly Democrat since the dawn of the Southern Strategy years ago and 2. Given the history of this country, black people were going to get a bit excited at the idea of a black president. It's not rocket science.
It wasn't meant as an insult, just a question. And it wasn't 15% that voted for Romney; it was 7%.

Yes, I can understand black people being excited about finally having a black President. At least 4 years ago. Being raised a Catholic, I remember some in my church being excited when JFK was elected as the first Catholic. LOL. Where I was raised (rural Iowa) I wasn't even aware of racism because there were no blacks. There, at that time, discrimination was Protestant vs. Catholic, although I never witnessed it to be honest. I realized how "sheltered" I'd been when I entered the military and was stationed in Texas. That's the first time I'd seen racism. It was deplorable and angered me.

Please excuse me for being unintelligent. I'm working on that.

Blacks always vote for Democrats by a large margin. Most have been White Democrats.

Either the poster doesn't actually know such people or this falls under birds of a feather flocking together.

I'm not a racist by any means and don't want this thread to get out of hand, but 14-1 voting in a presidential election by any race is monumental.

The other main difference between the President and Gov. Romney was political ideology. So why the monumental landslide for Obama by African Americans? Race? Ideology? Something else?
John Kerry got 88% of the black vote.

Blacks vote overwhelmingly for Democrats, regardless of color.

Blacks used to vote overwhelmingly for Republicans before the civil rights movement and southern strategy. The flipped their votes after all the southern democrats defected to the Republican party.
