For an incumbant, Obama did not do very well.

You are forgetting that gay marriage was APPROVED by voters in Washington (my home state
) Maryland and Maine. Plus, marijuana was legalized in Washington (we kick *****!) and Colorado. The Dems GAINED seats in the Senate thanks to the right-wing hacks acting like right-wing hacks and gained a couple of seats in the House.
Plus, this election proved that the GOP is dead. Why? Remember when blacks used to be all for the GOP? Well, then Nixon and his "Southern Strategy" ended that and blacks went to Dems and have been there ever since. Now, the GOP is alienating Latinos and Asians.
America is now only 72% white and more immigrants from Asia and Latin America move here every year. With those votes square in the Dems corner, things will get worse and worse for the GOP.
Basically, this election proved that America is no longer a left of Center country. The insurgence of leftist leaders in Latin America has an impact on Latino thinking here in the US and they are leading the charge towards a new, progressive America.
No matter how you try to slice it, this was a BIG WIN for America, the left, and the future of the working class. All the GOP has are a few old dying white guys.
