Now,this is not a problem I have experienced where I live, however we have heard many stories of people waiting in line for hours in order to vote. Obama made mention of this last night in his speech as something that needs to be fixed. Can we all agree that we have a big problem when people need to wait in line for hours in order to be able to vote??
This is why I hugely support early voting. As bad as the election day lines were in Ohio and Florida they were not as bad as they would have been had a substantial portion of the electoral not voted before election day.
It was intentional. Higher voter turnout benefits Democrats, so if you're a R election official, you limit the number of days of early voting, limit the number of polling sites in minority or traditionally democratic areas, and limit the number of voting machines at those sites so that it takes forever to vote, hoping most people will give up and go home. It says a great deal about the people who stood in line nearly all day just for the chance to stand up to that kind of abuse of power. I think once people realized what was going on, it backfired, and more young people showed up at the polls than otherwise might have voted in an "I'll show you" move. Good for them.
