let me add something i have been thinking about-why conservatives know that intuitively this is the right thing to do.

you don't prove your principles by talk, but by action.

if you really believe in your principles, you understand what the ramification of that tax increase would be-a tanking economy-and you would understand that you can never win elections again as long as you continue to play the "bad cop" to the democrat "good cop". (those if we just got our tax increases that the meanies won't let us have, the economy would be saved democrats).

if not, you will be boehner for another 4 years, willing to let the republicans take the fall again for the lousy economy and no improvement.

do you really want that?

and if you can't actually win because the dependent state has gotten so big that it will dominate every election going forward, then it wouldn't have mattered anyway, would it?
