Minnesota is interesting. Until the Republicans insisting on putting the issue of same-sex marriage up for a vote (confident a ban would pass, a view widely shared by Democrats), it was a non-issue in the state. Now that there has been a vote, and the ban was rejected, there is a resulting momentum in the state legislature to pass a bill establishing marriage equality in the state.

I believe the operative term there is: unintended consequences.

i find that statement very judgemental. There are good Republicans and good Democrats that may not support everything you believe in, whether it be gay marriage, legalizing pot, or maybe cutting defense spending. My point is, we can all disagree on issues, but that doesn't make us right, good or bad.

Gay marriage has become a make or break issue in our Presidential elections. Many young people might be open to voting Republican but refuse to because of that one stance. I think it has become the strongest wedge issue of our time, moreso than abortion. A candidate has to take a stand on it and that stand will make them or break them.

I do think it will be an issue, even if I think it should not be, but my post (reply)n had to do with the statement, because he supports gay marriage makes him a good person, pretty much saying other Republicans are not. I have a huge issue with blanket statements like that. I would hope none of us judge how good or bad a person is based on a single issue or think, if one doesn't agree with us, it makes them bad or wrong..As for a candidate taking a stand, I agree 100%, I wish more would..

Tell that to Democrats. All Obama and liberals were talking about this last election cycle is gay marriage and contraception. Romney wasn't talking about them.

I agree with you that a candidate shouldn't be solely judged on their gay marriage stance, but that's the point we've arrived at in this country. Obama coming out in favor of gay marriage more than likely swayed just enough young voters to turn the election. Sadly, today that is the litmus test being used to determine whether someone is a good person or not. My stance is percuiliar because it is too conservative to satisfy liberals but too liberal to be accepted by conservatives. Nonetheless, I wish we could just legalize it and get it overwith so some sense of civility can return to politics.
