Speaking both English and Spanish is a very popular skill to have in America. Many employers require it, why not the voting public?

It is only a matter of time before Spanish is going to be the primary language in America, why not require our politicans to speak it (along with English) so they can relate better to the Spanish Speaking public? Your thoughts?

You want to require that Spanish is spoken, when it's not even required that English be spoken? Absurd.

Also, from where comes the notion that Spanish is going to be the primary language in the USA? Currently, fewer than 45 million people in the USA (approximately 14% of the population) speak Spanish as their first or second language, and over half of them also speak English very well.

It wouldn't matter to me. No me importaría.

... and yes, the idea that Spanish will ever become the primary language in the U.S. is utterly absurd. In some small parts of the U.S., maybe -- but even in the most heavily Hispanic areas of the country today, English is widely spoken and understood, and people are aware that it's difficult to get along in the wider society without it.

I doubt you will see Spanish our primarey language. Eventually maybe, but not in most of our lifetimes. Now, expecting a candidate to speak both languages is totally urrealistic. What happens when someone decides because we have so many Asians we need to speack Japaneser or chinese or whatever or those running for office on the northern borders should speak French? As for companies requiring both languages I don't think there are many, if any, unless they are companies that do a lot of business with venders south of us or are located in primarily Spanish speaking districts, where the employee is dealing with Hispanics. Giving preference to dual language applicants is different, than requiring it.

How about we first look for some that speak the truth in one language?

When a candidate shows up at some rally and shows he or she can speak both English and Spanish the crowd goes wild and the media plays it up. Good publicity.

I only speak English myself.

Now you are talking about something totally different. You are talking about how much a crowd likes to hear a candidate speak a second language. of course a crowd of Hispanics love to hear a candidate speak Spanish or a group of say, Chinese would love a candidate that can speak Chinese, but that is different from your original idea or making it mandatory...

Nothing is mandatory in politics. Just expected due to the changes in the publics opinion about what makes a good candidate for office.

I guess than you didn't mean it the way it was worded in your posting: you suggested it should be requjired. As for what makes a good candidate a lot of things do and certainly being multi lingual is a good trait for eveyone, not just a politician, but no, it shouldn't enter into the picture.

And someone who actually gives a damn about the Constitution would be a great start!
