And you think libertarianism will fix the "oligarchy"? I don't. Oligarchy means rule of an elite. Libertarians will defend an oligarchy's rights to do as they wish, no matter how exploitative it is. The reality is that libertarianism is only second in philosophies espoused by corporations. The first is pure cronyism, but libertarianism will also do for them. In the name of protecting their property and their "rights", they will cause alot of mischief.
Ron Paul and his ilk propose simplistic solutions to very complex problems. In fact most of Ron Paul's solutions aren't solutions at all, they are just old, tired arguements recycled. The reality is that Ron Paul opposses the Iraq war and he's feeding off that, but everything else about him is the same old, tired Republican bottom line. Cut government, cut government, cut government. Make it so small you can drown it in a bathtub, etc. We've heard it all before, and it won't help the average American at all. It's like pouring gasoline on a fire, in fact.

Interestingly enough, how many corporate interests in Ron Paul representing? How many lobbyists visit his office? If your hypothesis is to be proven true, wouldn't the list be nice and long?

You obviously haven't been listening to him closely at all. He knows that these are complex problems, and he's stated that the more complex the problem, the more local the solution should be. How is that avoiding the problem? It's simply shifting responsibility to those who are more closely scrutinized by the people. The issue isn't reducing services, it's reducing corruption.
People from my local meetup group here in Dallas recently posed a few questions of a Republican congressman who was speaking in the area. He quickly realized that they weren't Giuliani supporters and asked who they were behind. When he heard that they were Ron Paul supporters he laughed and said that the problem with Ron Paul is that he's not a Republican... he doesn't pander to the party. He doesn't scratch anyone's back. He's too pure. When people in the audience heard this they were somewhat taken aback... too pure? He said that we don't need purity in politics in Congress.
What most people seem to fail to grasp is that Ron Paul is running for a federal office, the executive office. The issues that people fault him the most on are in fact State or local issues... not federal issues. There are plenty of ways to skin a cat, but people seem to think that the federal government is the only one with the power. If one state wishes to raise funds to provide housing and food to everyone, there's nothing wrong with that. A Paul administration would not prevent or discourage that.
Somebody could still go out and live an agrarian, mostly self-sufficient life on the frontier. This type of living is impossible to day.
Ummm just to point out, there are thousands of people striving to do just this in the USA right now,it is actually quite possible although not what most people would consider enjoyable,it involves actual manual labor.
We ope to establish a small self sufficient place on our land that can provide enough income to pay the taxes.
