Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says he favors an amendment to the Constitution that protects human life and will ban abortions on a nationwide scale. His comments follow those of GOP hopeful Fred Thompson who said Sunday he opposes an amendment but wants Roe v. Wade overturned.
I appreciate a man standing by his convictions. I think most people can but I hope he realizes he just bought himself a one way ticket back to Hope, AR.
Huckabee's offer is a cheap stunt, the sort seen when one is floundering so badly they're about to fall off the ballot.
In 1996, when floundering badly, Bob Dole trotted out, late in the campaign, a pledge to cut taxes 15%. The American public saw it for the cheap ploy it was, rejecting Bob Dole and re-electing Bill Clinton, despite the 1994 GOP wins and Contract With America.
Huckabee just sealed his fate.

Huckabee would probably have more support if McCain wasn't in the race. Even at that, its really just stupid to pledge such. Whoever is elected will be working with a Dem controlled congress for at least 2 years, depending on just how bad the Dems keep doing, and how bad the Republicans do. Anyway, point being it would never make it to his desk if he were in the Oval Office. Its a non-issue, other than removing the federal government from the equation and letting the states decide. That would be the best things.

Yes, exactly true. Other non-issues have been raised in recent years to 'rally' the faithful. One in point being the proposed constitutional amendment (CA's) to define marriage as James Dobson, et al, define marriage. Bringing that up was the Bush-Rove method of creating a lot of noise and smoke while they went about their merry way of bankrupting the U.S.Treasury with tax breaks for the wealthy and writing ever bigger loopholes in the tax code for their pals and supporters. It was also a sop from Bush to Dobson, et al, designed to say, "see James, I tried, but "they" killed it, so I still need your support and votes." Humbug! Same for the proposed CA to ban flag burning, all smoke and mirrors to divert attention from the robbery going on as we speak. Why is it that NO politician, on any side, wants to talk about a CA to make Social Security sound, to balance the budget, to make English our national language, or...or...or... or do any of the things that SHOULD be done?

Yeah, it is late in the campaign. Only a year to go.
A whole damn year of Hillary screeching at us and lying like her husband.
Mike Huckabee pledges to give each American a 44 lb gold bar. About the same chance as he has of overturning Roe V Wade.
