I don't get why so many Repulicans like this guy. He is conservatice on two issue: Gays and Abortion; tow things that are unlikely to be impacted no matter who is president.
He is a liberal when it comes to crime, imigration, and especially the economy. The average tax burden for the average individual rose 47% in Arkansas and government employment went up 20% according to the CATO institute. We already know he is how he feels about illegal imigrants.
And does anyone know his foreign policy? Does he even have one?
IMO: History has shown us that every 4 years, there will always be voters who believe America is becoming less moral. They see a candidate who has the right "moral credentials", and say, "Gee, he looks like he can fix this country's moral problems!"
His policies? Oh, policies don't matter. What matters is his personal faith. Because we know that if he listens to God, then God will lead him to make good decisions. Nevermind how that's been working out for our current president; it's a surefire plan for the next guy.
Unless, of course, there are any Republicans who agree with this guy's policies. Anyone... ?

Foreign Policy is way down on many Americans checklist when they look at Presidential candidates.
If you look are at where that has led us today, I agree this is a bit absurd.

My thoughts exactly I hate how the religious republicans have made our party a limited issue, antigay, anti abortion party.
This whole issue of being unelectible is a bit silly, because candidates are compared in a vaccuum. In real life, they run against another candidate, with their own flaws.
If Huckabee runs against Clinton, and both are unelectible, obviously we would find that one would ultimately win (and don't throw that 3rd party nonsense in as a response).

These are the ONLY issues most far-right evangelicals care about. Being as the extreme right-wing of the evangelical movement now control the Republican party, anybody who comes out decidedly anti-gay and anti-abortion has a great shot at winning.
I live in a county that voted over 80% for George W. Bush in 2004 and over 70% for him in 2000. This is by far the most conservative county in Arkansas.
The preachers here say that gays and abortion are the ONLY two issues that matter and if any other issues sway your vote, then its a sin against God. Even further, the widely preached and accepted view around here is if you vote for any candidate who shows any support for the gay agenda or hasn't made a public statement against homosexuality, you will be charged, in God's eyes, with "every abomination of every sodomite who ever lived," and be sent straight to hell.
If this is how most evangelicals across the country believe, then that is why Huckabee is showing such strength. I agree though he will be a tough sell in the general election.

Yes, those concepts would be a tough sell in the Northeast and West Coast.
