Regardless of your own political views or party identification, if the 2008 presidential election comes down between John Edwards (D) and Mitt Romney (R), who wins and why?
(Note: This question assumes both candidates wage very effective campaigns, no huge mess-ups, no big controversies, and assumes stellar, uncontroversial VP choices by both. For example, Evan Bayh for Edwards and Tom Ridge/Bill Frist for Romney.)
Edwards is my candidate. Every poll I've seen indicates Edwards beats all repubs by a greater margin than either Obama or Clinton. I believe Frist is controversial because of his involvement in the Schiavo case. His family runs a large HMO (I forget which one) and there some talk about some illegal activity one their part. Not sure of the details. I don't know if he would be a good choice for V.P.
It shouldn't be the case, but I believe Romney's religion will be an issue.

god help us if those are the 2 choices that are left! john edwards strikes me as too socialist and i'm a democrat! i could not bring myself to vote for flip flopney b/c i think that he's an opportunist that joined the "i hate gays" bandwagon to get the christian votes that he would need in the primaries and b/c of his mormon religion. i say that b/c the mormons considered blacks to be the son of cain or somehting like that and would not allow blacks into their priesthood until 1978. how could he defend belonging to a church like that as an adult? i also don't like how the mormons build opulent temples as monuments of their wealth rather than help out people in need. i also don't like how the mormon church gets involved in political issues like gay marriage. if it is receiving tax exemption, it should stay out of public affairs and leave that to voting taxpayers.
Romney in a landslide! The voters seem to be very vulnerable to the (get something for nothing) scam, but Edwards is just way too far over the top. Very succesfull business man VS very succesfull ambulance chaser! I think people would choose someone who has actually worked for a living!
Some reasons why I like John Edwards. If this had been my child, I would hope Edwards would have been my attorney. 12 other children had also injuries from Sta-Rite's faulty drains. Edwards cases were not all about money.
When people complain about Edwards' $400 haircut, I direct them to pictures of Mitt's mansion. He probably can afford $1,000 haircuts. Mitt doesn't look like he wears off the rack suits either. (I think Edwards has better hair. LOL) The NYT article compares all the candidates who are attorneys: Clinton, Guiliani, Obama, Edwards and Thompson. Seems balanced and fair. Bill Clinton stated today he thinks Edwards can beat Hillary in Iowa.

Couldn't stand him when he ran with Kerry. Quite possibly the reason Kerry lost.
Most American men can't relate to edwards because he is so shrilly.
I can't relate to him because he is so oily. He reminds me of when I was in Turkey, you have these merchants pretending they love americans all the while trying to pick your pocket.

One of the reasons Kerry lost was because he ignored Edwards advice and did not immediately respond to the swiftboat attackers.
Teenager asks to touch Romney's hair. The teenager first saw Romney during the debate and commented "It was the first time I saw him and I was, like, he has nice hair!" Fortunately, she's too young to vote. May the best hair win. LOL
