The old-school definition of "gay" was it was something one DID, not something one WAS.

Dr. Carson apparently holds to the less modern definition of the word.

The problem probably isn't in his understanding of sexuality, but in keeping up with new meanings of words.

and now, according to a potential 2016 Republican presidential contender, Ben Carson, there's prison.

Yep, prison.

Stay away from crime, kids.

Turns ya gay.

Carson, who, let me reiterate, is a potential presidential candidate from a major American party, and a neurosurgeon to boot, told CNN's Chris Cuomo in an interview that aired Wednesday that "a lot of people ... go into prison straight -- and when they come out, they're gay."

Asked if being gay was a choice, Carson replied in a word: "Absolutely."

Thanks, Ben Carson, but prison doesn't make people 'come out' gay - CNN.com
1. Ben carson is smarter than you and I put together. This would still be true if you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express for the next 30 days.

2. Is he factually correct? How many people (percentage) of men engage in gay sex in prison? How many in the general population?
If you were to analyze the stats then you might conclude that Dr Carson is correct.

So what percentage of males out of prison are anxious to return to a heterosexual lifestyle? Probably at least 90%.

I wonder if Carson's grandparents during the 1960s thought new civil rights laws protecting blacks from discrimination were wrong, because it was God's will to keep the races separated.

so they are only gay while in prison? Even if it were 90%, then that would be 8% more than the general population.

But it doesnt make someone gay.

Gay isnt simply having sex.

We will likely never have a good detailed number in our lifetimes because many people who have an attraction with the same gender do not identify as gay, and others are just in the closet.

And simply having sex with the same gender is not the same as being gay.

If two dudes are pounding each other hard, can I assume they are gay?
Or were they just bored?
