I think the difference between a liberal democrat and a moderate democrat is the same difference as between a right wing republican and a moderate republican. Although the politician may strongly share his party's views on policy, only the moderate politician is willing to compromise.

Unfortunately, there are few moderates left in Washington in either party.

It's difficult to have rational, nonpartisan discussion in P&OC and its subforums. Just look at this thread; what was supposed to be a simple discussion on the difference between political beliefs turned into another bout of partisan generalizations from the very first response.
