I think of the Republicans lose in 2016 and again in 2020 regardless of how far right or moderate they go, the GOP will become the GDP or Grand Dead Party joining the Federalist Party and the WHIG Party (of the early/mid 1800's.) They have to adapt whether it is going moderate similar to the new Democrat of 1992 or going more libertarian. By not adapting and just offering conservative options, they will die off. It's just a matter of time.

Die off? Every entity whether political, religious, etc. has three factions - conservative, moderate and liberal. None of that is going to die - ever. The reason being, every person has one of those three factions within themselves on any given issue, idea or thought.

You don't get it, when a party is irrelevant it dies off. The Federalist died off over the course of 20 years after Alexander Hamilton lost in his duel with Aaron Burr. The Whigs picked up from there but died off in the 1850's with the Republican Party replacing them. The ideology kinda sorta dies off of the party becomes irrelevant. The Republican brand is pretty chose to doing just that in the White House similar to the Democrats during the 1980s. Either they adapt and change with the times or get replaced with a new party.

Or the just cycle in and out with a different name, but same ideology.

It is called rebranding. Similar to bankruptcy, but only your not dead yet, but on your last breaths.
A facelift to get back on the dating scene.
The Progressive Era, brought on the true Communists out of the socialistic push at the turn of the last century. After fighting Socialism, and then the immediate cold war with the USSR(Russia) and Communism, the Progressives renamed themselves Liberal. When they turned out to be anything but liberal. Control, more tax and more spend, to micromanage the economy and now the people. When their only job is to secure rights and protect those rights. They have failed miserably on both accounts.

I think the chance of winning national elections becomes extremely difficult as time moves on. Unless the Republican Party can nominate a younger and charismatic figure (the "savior" Scott Walker is one of the least charismatic people I've ever seen, right up there with Ben Carson, so he doesn't fit that critera) and someone who isn't for foreign entanglements and constant war (Rand Paul fits this description although he's known to be wishy-washy), they at least have a shot in 2016. But the GOP has so much other baggage that these two things alone doesn't equal instant success.
As usual, I think Republicans will continue to win local and state elections for the next several years. But on the national level, I think their spotlight is diminishing unless they make drastic changes.
