The United States is facing a lot more immediately critical problems than the IRS. I don't think the IRS is going to be a hot topic in 2016 at all. But raising the minimum wage will sure be, as will taxing the ultra-wealthy more be, too.
I beg to differ. There is no more immediately critical issue than that of protecting the Liberty of all Americans, and especially when it involves the violation of the First Amendment protections of speech, and religious freedoms, and the governments use of the IRS against those persons or organizations whose views are different from the administration's.
The power of the people over government abuse is dependent on our freedom of speech, and our elected representatives, who as overseers, have investigative power.
Personally, I couldn't care less about the minimum wage, but I am concerned about the direction of this government toward socialism, and the loss of Liberty under Democrat control, and people like Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton, who have little regard for my Liberty.
Taxing wealthy Americans does not help the poor either. That is a myth. Wealthy Americans already pay more than their "fair share." How have the "poor" been helped by this? I think everyone should pay the same rate, regardless of income. That would be fair.
I'm also more concerned about the rise of the threat of terrorism in the last six years. We are far less safe than we were when Obama took office. The Democrats do not seem to have a plan for dealing with that threat, and they refuse to acknowledge it even exists. Cutting our military is not a plan that makes us more safe, but less. Peace comes through strength.
I don't like the IRS either but WTF are you talking about?
The only thing the IRS can make anyone do is pay back taxes plus interest. That's it. What are the IRS forcing you to do that is so horrible?
.
It's far right conservative, borderline libertarian rhetoric that the IRS are thieves. In reality only about 1% of most tax tax range gets forced to open their books and it only becomes abut 5% on the top two ranges (about 500k income makers) in a study I found trying to refute a post alleging that the IRS only audits people. Don't forget, the IRS also features a phone bank too that has actually been stricken with back ups due to recent budget cuts.

They can also seize all your money and property, one of the major reasons people file for bankruptcy is to stop the levies and seizures, does not excuse the amount owed but stop their collection actions. But you are correct in one sense, they cannot put anyone in jail for not paying their taxes.

Yeah but as I mentioned that is still a rare event if you make under about 1 mil as it is still one out of 20 at 500k. What Are the Odds of Being Audited by the IRS? | Nolo.com
That and it is only about a few million audits each year.
Seems they, the IRS, have the power over the people. Not the other way around.
This one agency, took the power from the people and gave it to them the government, to punish the people, if they don't do what the government wants.
Time to end the IRS and all taxing of the people on the federal level.
Amend the 16th amendment!!!! Like we did with the 18th Amendment, when it turned out to be a very bad idea and restricted individual liberty.
The other candidate is Huckabee he supports the fair tax which would also eliminate the IRS
Yeah but they would still need to exist on some form to collect tax revenue from the business you pay the tax to. You may not see them as an Average Joe but as I said, before, most Average Joes aren't hit by audits. At most 2-3% of those making under 500k.

the problem with the flat or fair tax is it would put many tax prepares out of work
