Remember back in the 20's, 30's, you had to be very careful about revealing to someone you were a socialist, as J. Edgar Hoover might be listening!

Bernie has put Socialism on the table now, with pride, and did I read this correctly, that in a recent Gallup poll, 47% of Americans are now in favor of Socialism? Was that a typo?

What he has achieved is he's now liberated any number of potential political candidates, whether it be for Governor, Mayor, state legislatures, to come out of the closet, so to speak, and proudly announce he/she is running as a Socialist! And I foresee more Bernie Sanders type of characters running for office before long, as a result of this.

What do you think? Will we ever get the cat back in the bag now?
I'm not too worried about loonie Bernie. Most voting age adults no longer believe in Santa Claus.

Capitalism must provide social programs for the folks that are unfortunate. IF that is not done socialism becomes popular and sometimes ends in revolution.

A wise capitalist knows capitalism must be sprinkled with socialism to keep the system alive.

I think it's funny that there are posters here trying to define Bernie's political stance like they know better than he does. He's a Democratic Socialist????? That's not what HE says.

I don't see any indications that Sanders is a true socialist. He says he is a democratic socialist. . that would mean that the Government owns means of production, but is run by a democratic process.

Of course - that is an absurd notion. Its never worked. With that being said, Sanders is more of just a social Democrat, not a socialist.

Has anyone ever heard him say that all companies should be "taken over" by the Government? Not me. He just want policies like "strong labor rights, progressive taxation, a robust array of public goods like child care, health care, and higher education" source (Bernie Sanders

The Socialism that Bernie is advocating is just really progressive/liberal/democrat policies. . .for example Europe Switzerland/etc.

Nothing akin to the "evil Red socialism". . which even Bernie should be able to agree, is a objective failure of an economic system.

Never been tested. This is a hypothesis, or theory, but not reality.

No Country has implemented a fully capitalistic system without social policies

no capitalistic economy has EVER been overturned . . .though socialism economies have transferred to more of a quasi capitalism with social elements (China for instance, writing on the wall for Cuba)

"Yet most conservatives are unequivocal in asserting that “socialist states” are a complete failure, with miserable citizens suffering under the yoke of oppressive governments intruding into their lives. Conservatives see socialism as a system that “takes everything from the rich and gives it to the undeserving poor,” a compelling talking point but totally wrong especially when seen in the context of a nation like Sweden and the actual practice of Democratic Socialism."

What Do Sweden, Socialism and Bernie Sanders Have in Common? | Alternet

Great article for those of you that seem very confused about socialism.
