Yet Reaganism became the new standard of the GOP, the Atwater Strategy became the way the GOP has won elections ever since, and any candidate today still holds Reagan in reverence. Reagan had as much effect on the "establishment" as the Kennedy's did until Clintonism took over. The Rovians didn't become the "establishment" until W won the election in 2000. (even his dad was living under Reaganism)

So I disagree with you on this.

That isn't true. You can look at the issue with the NRSC getting involved in Mississippi. They went on a witch hunt against Chris McDaniel’s campaign because he was ahead in the polls. He is now supporting Ted Cruz's presidential campaign, because Ted Cruz was the only person to stand up for him.

You can also follow the story of Ken Cuccinelli running for Governor in 2014. The RNC refused to help fund him at a critical point and we lost to a Democrat. He was too conservative for them.

The GOPe are having fits that Donald Trump is throwing a wrench into their plans. Trump was right to call Rove a jerk, because he is. Although his nickname, "Turd Blossom", is more accurate.

Rove called up Ted Cruz and blasted him for getting support from GB during his Senate race against Dewhurst. Rove was furious and threatened Cruz not to make that public, because it interfered with their fundraising plans for the GWB Library. He told Cruz to return the check, but it had already been cashed.

Rove also told Ted Cruz he didn't have a chance to win the Senatorial race against Dewhurst. He told him, "Ted, you are a fool. You will be outraised by all of them. You are a fool because you've already won the AG race. You're blowing a sure thing and taking on an impossible race."

That is probably Rove's view today on Cruz's bid for the WH.
