Christie is a shady Con man, typical of Jersey politicians for decades. Like Slick Willie Clinton, Fats is a tricky, Slick Talker, who can't Fool the majority as he has in the past.
There's not much difference between Christie and Trump when it comes to personality. Remember, Trump gave millions to Democrats including Hillary before he decided he wanted to turn the Presidency into a reality TV show. Christie actually has an understanding of how government works, however, and that would be a difference between the two.

I think you have to look at the field in terms of strategy and standing, bearing in mind that this is the last debate before Christmas/New Year's and the penultimate before Iowa. Certain candidates can afford to coast (t), whereas others have an incentive to make waves (b):

Trump — Leading nationally and in NH, has no trouble attracting media attention.
Cruz — Gradually building a lead in IA via retail politics. Looking for precinct captains, not soundbites.
Christie — Gaining in NH via retail politics. Same strategy as Cruz.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jeb! — Struggles at both wholesale and retail politics. Needs to do something.
Rubio — Inexplicably eschewing retail politics in the early states, making his debate performance crucial.
Kasich — Auditioning for the role of this year's Jon Huntsman. Will continue to play schoolmarm to the fantastical proposals of his rivals.
Rand — Vanity/ideological campaign. Will promote the Paul brand and attempt to forestall an embarrassing finish in NH, IA, and/or KY.
Fiorina — VP/entrepreneurial campaign. Will continue to attack Clinton in order to position herself for future gigs.
Carson — Vanity/entrepreneurial campaign. Just has to please his audience in order to sell more books and win more face time on FNC.

I predict that most of the debate will be about discrediting Trump, instead of what its supposed to be about. The Moderators will be using "Pointed" questions, hoping for "Gotcha" moments, and Trump will still be the Duck with water being thrown on him. Then his points will go up, as everyone else is claiming they are going down. The Media will claim Trumps failure and poor performance for days, as his numbers go up. Then look for all the Polls that are manipulated to give you the data you want to hear. There will be some for all, some winning, some losing, some outrage, and some cheering. Just pick a result you like.

I still think Rubio vs Cruz and Christie vs Rubio will be the big battles of the night. The moderators may try to make it about Trump but how far did Perry, Jindal, Kasich (life support), Bush (life support) and Graham (CPR) get for that strategy?
