Not dumb. Just corrupt to the point that major public works take way too long and cost way too much. Which puts an upper limit to the size of projects you can undertake.

The wall requires many times the concrete and steel than to construct the Hoover Dam, as the article stated. I don't know about the Panama Canal. My understanding from H.S. History was the largest problem was Malaria and digging the trench. But this isn't my field of expertise.
And yet the wall is being built, despite it being "impossible".

I wonder how thats taking place..

M-E-X-I-C-O!

So, I will post this for the 5th time:

"Mexico must pay for the wall and, until they do, the United States will, among other things:

1) impound all remittance payments derived from illegal wages;

2) increase fees on all temporary visas issued to Mexican CEOs and diplomats (and if necessary cancel them);

3) increase fees on all border crossing cards – of which we issue about 1 million to Mexican nationals each year (a major source of visa overstays);

4) increase fees on all NAFTA worker visas from Mexico (another major source of overstays); and

5) increase fees at ports of entry to the United States from Mexico.

[Tariffs and foreign aid cuts are also options].

We will not be taken advantage of anymore."

Let's just make sure we have this established: Most of the Russian-Norwegian border is marked by a cleared strip of forest with concrete markers at intervals. No wall. Mmmkay?

A trade war with the 3rd biggest trade partner. That'll kickstart the economy.

One correction to your post. >

The real news is that the wall is now a given. Mexico has now accepted that when Trump is elected the wall WILL go up.

There are some ongoing efforts, but it is harder than you think. For example, where the jaguar lives in the Santa Rita mountains, they are going to build a copper-mine. Technically, they should designate it critical habitat for endangered species, but they get around that by claiming that the jaguar does not represent a breeding population. Of course, if people disappeared tomorrow from Arizona and Sonora, Mexico, the jaguars would quickly reestablish a breeding population in Arizona. They are native here, and only human activities prevent them from repopulating the state. There have been other jaguars in recent years in southern Arizona, in other mountain ranges too. But fish and game agencies are often reluctant to designate critical habitat for endangered species, because it means a lot of bureaucracy and limits the ways the land can be used. So expect that dynamic around challenges to the wall. It is a shame. I'm on the animals side.

In other words, for the next 1000+ years.

The items you posted would not be leverage to force Mexico to spend one penny on a wall. What they would do is destroy our diplomatic and trading ties with Mexico which would be as much to our detriment as theirs.
