I'm feeling a whole lot of Huey Long & George Wallace circa 1968.

I am guessing Trump would go the way of either Romney or slightly worse.

Trump is plain spoken.

That is his only Goldwater characteristic. Goldwater was not rude.

Goldwater was much more knowledgable than Trump, on everything.

Goldwater was defeated by eastern liberal Republicans before the convention.

Moyer's daisy commercial was the final blow.

FWIW, Goldwater would be banned from today's Republican Party as too liberal.

He would have left before being banned.

While I cannot call myself a big fan of Barry Goldwater, I gotta admit he was somewhat clairvoyant in his predictions regarding the 'turn' that he envisioned the GOP & simply, conservatism, would take. From the Washington Post interview in 1994:

"Goldwater continues: "The oldest philosophy in the world is conservatism, and I go clear back to the first Greeks. ... When you say 'radical right' today, I think of these moneymaking ventures by fellows like Pat Robertson and others who are trying to take the Republican Party away from the Republican Party, and make a religious organization out of it. If that ever happens, kiss politics goodbye."

That's the sort of apostasy that has provoked some of Goldwater's fellow Republicans to question his sanity and his loyalty, and to try to impose stiff sanctions."

i may be too young to understand the political environment back then but I think Mr. Goldwater saw the writing on the wall, even back then. Please note too his now famous quote about the military, "You don't have to be straight to be in the military; you just have to be able to shoot straight."

I also cannot say that Mr. Trump reminds me of either? He is very much himself!

Many say he supported the Viet Nam war. I heard him say for what the USA had spent trying to defeat Viet Nam, we could have bought the country, every man woman and child in it, twice.

I think I would've liked him, he sounds smart, pragmatic, reasonable & he even had a sense of humor!
