Bernie Sanders has been increasingly direct in his attacks against Hillary Clinton's past positions. But there's only one problem with his holier-than- thou narrative: Sanders' own voting record shows he's often voted for similar measures.

Sanders and his supporters seem to consider political consistency as the main measure of a politician's character. "You can be a moderate. You can be a progressive. But you cannot be a moderate and a progressive," Bernie subtweeted Clinton last month. But Sanders has been in the House or Senate for more than 25 years, and during all that time, any politician's voting record is bound to have some inconsistencies. Sanders is no exception. At times he's voted in favor of bills on national security, criminal justice, and immigration that he says he now opposes, attacking Clinton for casting the same votes that he did.

Bernie always seems to have an excuse for why he criticizes Hillary for things that he said or voted for.

This is what vetting looks like- his version of events won't just be accepted at face value. As long as he is in the race, this closer scrutiny will continue and intensify. Will he be up to it? He gets a little testy when he gets contradicted from what I've observed.

I don't like that he voted for the deregulation of derivatives-it is often called his one and only pro-Wall Street vote. He was one of 8 at the time that voted against the repeal of Glass-Steagal.

Bernie Sanders Has One Pro-Wall Street Vote

Preferring Bernie over Hillary is more than about them voting a few times for the same bills (would have been nice to show which bills in your post).

It's very much about trustworthiness and about your campaign message. He wants the 1% to stop getting all the perks in our country. Let's spread some love and wealth around for the middle class.

Sanders is no Ted Cruz, who is willing to shutdown the government if the Congress refuses to defund Planned Parenthood.

Sanders realizes that no matter what one believes, we need to fund a government. Thus, he knows that if they don't pass a budget that includes funds for things he doesn't like, funds for CHIPs and unemployment will also be compromises.

Sanders is morally committed but he isn't a zealot, like Cruz.

Yep, typical response. Was there anything factually wrong in the piece? It's not Bernie Bashing or "pimping for Hillary" to put Bernie's record under the microscope, the way Hillary's has been for decades. I thought everyone was in favor of a well informed electorate who could then make up their own mind?

This is silly. If he hadnt voted for the crime bill, he would have been mocked and ridiculed as a sexist and misogynist gun nut by the Clinton campaign. Its a hit piece article where they dont let the accused defend these complex bills.

Reminds me of these attack ads by Richard Tarrant, the richest man in Vermont. He ran against Sanders on these ridiculous and deceptive attack ads about his voting record, hoping that an ill-informed public would win him the senate seat. Sanders crushed him by more than 30 points. To attack Sanders' integrity and consistency just doesnt work.

Classic Hillary support. It's not about what she's done, it's about everybody else.
