Not sure what you are referring to in regard to 'the left using muscle and violence.' Could you be more specific about 'your old side' (the left)?
Interestingly, when you look at the people who actually have been assassinated, they are those on the left. George Wallace is the only right-winger I can think of that someone took a shot at.
JFK, RFK, Martin Luther King and John Lennon, for that matter, were all taken down by bullets. There were a few plots against Obama by some crazies (not leftists, though), but good security and intelligence prevented it. In none of these cases did the victims use incendiary or hateful language or do anything to incite people to kill them.
There have been groups, both on the right (the Klan, et.al.) and the left (Weather Underground, et.al.) that have used violence, but it was more directed at groups rather than specific people.

First point: I referenced dynamics over the last twenty years. MLK and RFK were killed in 1968, JFK in 1963, Lennon in 1980 (I think). MLK was killed by a rightwinger, JFK by a leftwinger, and RFK by an Islamist. Lennon (and Reagan) were both shot by mental cases. Wallace was conservative in some ways, leftist in others. (The Weather Underground folks are still with us, of course.....Ayers and company, Ayers who has to this day never apologized for his terrorism).
But those are the big headline incidents from long ago.
Today, we have a movement that in many ways on many days relies on threats or actual violence to shut down its opposition. It can be as subtle as a Mizzou professor calling for "some muscle over here" to manhandle a reporter who dared to ask questions at a BLM rally. It is almost always about "the muscle" for the left these days. One or two actual attacks can accomplish wonders, in the way of intimidation.
One of the most loathesome I ever witnessed was a strong young man, accompanied by several others, at a leftist rally during a presidential campaign......
I think it was 2004 and that Michael Moore was the featured speaker..... ripping a Bush sign out of the hands of an elderly woman who was standing quietly at the very back of the crowd (actually 50 feet away) and smashing it, while screaming in her face.

If anything Chicago seems to have gotten people more interested what Trump has to say. The actions of the protestors are backfiring on them spectacularly.
What seems hard for you to accept is not everyone at his rallies are supporting him. I would think last night would make that pretty clear.
