"Just like Dad - outsources to China."

Yes, they do. He has spoken at great lengths about how difficult it is to get things manufactured here. It's not some big dark secret, he uses his stuff as examples.

Yet plenty of successful companies like Harley-Davidson, Gibson Guitars and dozens of others can make much more intricate products than clothing in the US. Trump is just a pathetic fraud who only cares about his profit margins, not employing Americans.

BTW, its not just her scarves, her entire line is made in other countries, just like her daddy's. They are pathetic and hypocritical frauds...

“Of the 838 Ivanka products advertised through the site, none appear to be made exclusively in the U.S.; 628 are said to be imported and 354 made specifically in China,”

The United States is the second largest manufacturing nation on Earth, and was only kicked out of the top spot by China in 2010.

The U.S. has less than 5% of the world's population, yet is responsible for 17% of the world's manufacturing production.

Yeah, it's super crazy tough making stuff in this country. Be serious.

Manufactured in American, or, Assembled in America?
Manufactured in America = all of the parts/materials used to build a product are manufactured in the US.
Assembled in America = some or all of the parts/materials are manufactured in other countries and shipped to the US where the final product is assembled.

Harley-Davidson - Assembled in America, and also in other countries.
Gets their parts from other countries - Mexico, Japan, Germany, etc., the wheels and hubs come from a manufacturing plant in Australia. The parts are shipped to the US where they are used to assemble the motorcycles.

A few years back HD started grumbling about moving their factories because of the operating costs. To avoid moving HD decided to reduce the number of workers and then to reduce the pay for the remaining workers.

HD also has factories in other countries.

Gibson Guitars - at least partially Assembled in America, and, Canada.
Not all of the wood comes from the US, not really sure if any of the wood does.
Illegally imported ebony wood from Madagascar, and, wood from India was seized - proving that at least some of the wood used isn't from the US.

Because of factory costs and a slow market, Gibson also reduced the numbers of their workers.

I didn't know Ivanka was running for president. This thread really doesn't belong in the Elections Forum.

Never the less..

"More than 97 percent of apparel and 98 percent of shoes sold in the U.S. are made overseas, according to the American Apparel & Footwear Association. During the 1960s, roughly 95 percent of apparel worn in the U.S. was made domestically."
Made in USA new manufacturing hubs in apparel

"The mid-1970s saw the emergence of large textile mills and factories in China and other developing countries in Asia and Latin America. These operations offered incredibly cheap labor and raw materials, as well as the capacity to quickly manufacture huge orders."

"A successive wave of trade liberalization polices in the 1990s, including the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1994, effectively wiped out most import restrictions and duties on foreign-made clothing. American retailers increasingly looked to suppliers in the Global South for all manufacturing needs.

Not surprisingly, American textile manufactures couldn’t compete: between 1990 and 2011, about 750,000 apparel manufacturing jobs in the U.S. disappeared, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics."
Why America Stopped Making Its Own Clothes | The Lowdown | KQED News

Even with the cheaper prices to produce apparel, etc. because of the mills and factories in other countries, most of the apparel, etc. manufacturing was still done in the US - that is, until NAFTA and other policies came about .... be sure to say 'Thanks Hillary'. Even though she wasn't in on those policy deals on her own, she was in on them and helped push them through.

We didn't know that Melania (oh, so hot!) and Mrs. Cruz (oh, so ugly in comparison) were running for prez, either, but they were still tweeted about, and then talked about, and retweeted ad nauseum.

He uses himself as a GREAT example of a typically hypocritical politician.
