I'm sure many of us have heard the old saying:

“If you’re not a liberal when you’re 25, you have no heart. If you’re not a conservative by the time you’re 35, you have no brain”

Following the point this statement is trying to make, do you believe this general statement has some validity to it in regards to sander's and his supporters? Given a liberal like sander's seems to attract a mostly younger set of voters/more idealistic in nature, it seems at least the first part of the statement has some validity.

The second part of the statement should invite some interesting commentary.

Well, let me say this...

I started as a Democrat from 18 to about 30. I had to leave due to the fact I could no longer support intentionally lying to people, as it's a foundation of that party as well as arrogance.

Then I joined the Republicans. But they had a total inability to govern.

Then I realized that neither side had all the answers.

So at age 40 I became a true moderate and registered Independent. What a breath of fresh air. I can approve or disapprove as I please of each party or politician. I can make up my own mind as to how to vote and I have an intellectual freedom that partisan party politics will not allow. No union, church, special interest group... tells me how to vote. I am my own man and not a party sheep hack.

I hope this helps.

I like your philosophy. I'm registered as non-affiliated here in AZ. I call it one step away from independent, saying a bit louder I trust none of them really. I think many more people are going toward the direction you're going in. In AZ, independent registered voters passed team R/D some years ago and you can see the trend in this graph:

Independent voters biggest voting bloc in Arizona

I think many people change like you have after one starts working and collecting a paycheck. Then I think the idealistic world for some turns into something different called reality when they start working full time for their money.

If Sanders could implement his ideas, we'd wind up eating tree bark and grass. His popularity among the young is testimony to the failure of our educational system.

Well, young people are inexperienced in the ways of the world, impressionable and easy to mislead.
