This Is What a Donald Trump Presidency Might Look Like - ABC News
ABC News: Breaking News & Latest Headlines

Quote:
How He’d Solve the Energy Crisis

In a 2011 interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Trump revealed part of his plan to solve the nation’s energy problems. Trump would authorize another Middle East invasion and take control of Iraq’s oil fields. Speaking to Stephanopoulos, Trump said, “We have spent thus far, $1.5 trillion. We could have rebuilt half of the United States. $1.5 trillion. And we’re going to leave. So, in the old days, you know when you had a war, to the victor belong the spoils. You go in. You win the war and you take it.” Upon being pressed by Stephanopoulos for clarification, Trump said “You’re not stealing anything. You’re taking - we’re reimbursing ourselves - at least, at a minimum… We’re taking back $1.5 trillion to reimburse ourselves.
Using Wikipedia and OPEC data on Iraq's proven oil reserves, $1.5 trillion in oil would be about 20% of Iraq's total oil reserves, or 28 billion barrels of oil.

CNN.com - Transcripts

Here in 2015 he said this to Jake Tapper:

Quote:
TAPPER: The U.S. just lost a soldier in Iraq. You were just talking about ISIS -- a Delta Force commando. Master Sergeant Joshua Wheeler, he was killed on a joint mission with Kurds to rescue roughly 70 hostages being held by ISIS, ones that the Pentagon says were facing imminent execution.

He's the first American soldier killed in combat against ISIS. Would you have ordered that mission?

TRUMP: I would say the following.

I was totally against Iraq, but we shouldn't have left the way we left. And if you remember -- and I told you very early on, if we're going to leave, take the oil, because, right now, you know who has the oil. And you know who is buying the oil is China. They don't have 10 cents in this whole deal, and they are buying the oil.

[09:20:07]

They are the biggest customer. But you have the oil going to ISIS and you have the oil going to Iran. And Iran will end up with most of it, and ISIS will have plenty, because they have got plenty of money because they took the oil, because we were stupid.

And I said, take the oil when we leave. But we shouldn't have really left. We shouldn't have gotten in, but then we shouldn't have left. So, Bush should have gotten us in, and Obama shouldn't have taken us the way he took us out.

In other news, a Military Times subscriber survey found that the most popular candidate with the armed forces members who took the survey is Donald Trump.

Military Times survey: Troops back Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders for president

Socialist candidate Bernie Sanders is surprisingly popular with the US armed forces members who took the survey, giving him 20-30% support. 2-4 times as much support that Hillary Clinton received.

But Trump was the huge favorite, with 30-40% support as an individual candidate, and even 50-60% support if you assume most Kasich/Cruz/Rubio supporters will ultimately vote for Trump in November.

If this unscientific poll is roughly representative of the mood of the US military, will most of the US military be willing to invade and forcefully take (aka steal) $1.5 trillion in oil?

It can't be easy to find a way to make a bigger mess of Bush's Folly, but you have to hand it to Trump - looks like he went and did just that.

And how does one 'take' that much oil. Iraq produces just under 5 million barrels a day. So to take that much oil would take about 15 years if my math is right. That's assuming we can fit 5 million barrels a day into something and haul it away. So go tell the troops that they have to keep a lid on Iraq for 15 more years as we take the oil. Then try your poll. Its when trump says stupid $hit like this that people think he's a moron or a liar.

How do you "take" the oil? The US government would seize, renovate, and operate Iraqi oil wells, oil facilities, pipelines and docks, man them with tens of thousands of trusted US workers, and have the US military on the ground protecting it from end to end? And then what? Try and recoup the costs buy selling at below market prices? Right-wingers don't trust the government to do anything right.
